Top 10 Reasons I Love Raising Boys
82
Raising Boys is the Best!
There is just something special about having boys. Ask any parent who has one and they will tell you the same thing. Yes, it is true that they have an endless amount of energy and may be running and jumping around the house like a pack of wild monkeys. But once all that energy is ran out, you will find a little boy with the sweetest hugs and kisses who will melt your heart in an instant. For those of you who may be expecting a baby boy soon, I wanted to share my top 10 reasons why I love raising boys!
Congrats...It's a boy!
Being a mother of two, I heard the doctor announce these exact words not once, but twice.
Pregnancy #1 - With my first son, I admit I wanted a girl and cried my eyes out. What was I going to do with a little boy? My mother reassured me that it was going to be fine. Of course, she was right. I loved my baby the second the doctor put him in my arms.
Pregnancy #2 - Although knowing the joys of raising a boy, I still wanted a little girl. The doctor announced the sex of the baby and again I cried. My hopes of a precious girl squashed once more. It took one look into big brother's excited eyes to quickly change my mind. Having another boy was exactly what we needed in our family!
So do you want to know what is so special about raising boys? Let me tell you with the top 10 reasons I love raising boys!
Boys + Popsicles = Sticky Mess!
The Perfect Description of a Boy
Top 10 Reasons Why Having Boys Is So Much Fun
1.) Boys love to get dirty!
Whether they are eating, digging in the dirt, or stomping through a mud puddle, boys love to get dirty. You may be asking "Why is this a good thing?" I will answer simply because they are boys and that is what they do. By human nature, they are attracted to all things messy, dirty, gooey, sticky, and yucky. It is like destiny that all these things will somehow wind up on a little boy - don't fight it because there is no use fighting this never ending battle! Just enjoy it, heck, jump in that mud puddle with them - you will love it!
2.) No messing with hair bows or pretty accessories!
There is no looking for that perfect hair bow to match their cute little outfit with boys. Thank goodness! No boy would ever stay still that long to let you put a bow in his hair. All you need for a boy is a brush and a little water or gel to calm down that crazy bed head. Less than a minute later, you are ready and out the door with your handsome little man!
3.) Burping (and other bodily functions) is allowed and hilarious!
Growing up, I often got in trouble for burping at the table. My dad would remind me that it wasn't nice for little girls to burp loudly in front of people. Of course, for boys it is just the opposite. If they are in the privacy of our home, the burping (and other bodily functions) just seem to fly around here and obviously is hilarious. You can't help but laugh when you hear a little boy chuckle - you know that deep belly laugh which is so contagious that you just can't help yourself but join in!

4.) Playing video games is acceptable quality family time!
My boys love to play the Wii. Add a little Just Dance or Super Mario Brothers and you have the perfect family night of fun. I mean what is more entertaining than watching little boys getting down to Viva Las Vegas in the living room? I don't know of anything better!
5.) Raising boys is a good workout!
There is no better way to get in shape than to have a little boy in your family. From football to baseball to soccer, we play it all around here. Not feeling sporty, jumping on the trampoline will get you out of breath in no time. If its rainy outside, we work on our wrestling and MMA moves inside the house. Watch out - don't mess with this mom because they have taught me some moves to take you down!
6.) Forget the high heels - tennis shoes are mandatory footwear!
I must laugh because back in the day I was quite the girlie girl prancing around in my heels. After having two boys, my high heels have been pushed to the back of the closet and replaced with the comfy tennis shoes. Keeping up with the never ending energy supply of a little boy, comfortable shoes are a must have accessory for every mom and a major plus because I now hate high heels!
My Favorite Little Boy Quote
7.) Mom is the only girl allowed in the fort!
You heard of no girls allowed, right? Not usually the case for mom. Little boys often make the sweet exception that mom is the only girl allowed in the fort. They usually make this one exception because who else is going to fix the fort when it falls over and bring them a snack on their pretend adventure. I love this honor of being the only girl because it is so much fun watching them play together!
8.) I am never short on dancing partners!
Being the only female in this household, I have my pick of dancing partners. I love the fact that my boys love to dance. I am hoping this love stays with them as they grow up. Taking a time out from the busy day and just acting silly while we are dancing is often my favorite time of the day with my boys.
Nothing Better than a Sharp Dressed Man
9.) Forget pretty dresses - got to love a sharp dressed man!
No, I never get the chance to put a cute little dress on a precious little girl but I do get to dress my boys like little sharp dressed men! Have you seen a little boy in a tie? I swear it will melt your heart in an instant. Most boys probably hate to dress up, but my oldest son loves to get all handsome and sport his manly tie!
10.) I am forever a princess in this house!
Since there are no other girls in my house, I shall remain the princess forever! You think I would be a queen by now, but my boys always say I am the princess so I just go with it. Seriously, what girl wouldn't love getting saved by two handsome brave knights on a daily basis? I don't mind this title one bit!

I have a 15 month old boy. I wanted a boy so I didn't cry when I found out. I love dressing up my little man and I'm looking forward to getting dirty. What a great list!
I'm not a mom [yet], but I loved reading this Hub! I was just discussing parenting boys vs girls with a girlfriend the other day. Your reasons are more than enough to reassure anyone with doubts that raising boys is an awesome adventure.
Hey Alissa, I'm glad you're proud to be a mom. I am not a parent and never have been, so I don't know what it is like to raise children. However, from what I have been told, I should never be a parent. LOL! Voted up!
Love it - and so true! I have 3 boys and a girl (2 singleton boys, and then boy-girl twins). I have to admit that when I found out the sexes of the twins, I had a hard time shopping for pink. I literally thought, "what will I do with a girl?" Of course, my daughter is a complete tomboy, so its like having a house full of boys still.... Voted up!
I have a son that has brought much joy to my life. He was one that loved the outdoors and would bring it inside to share his findings. I gave up trying to keep his jeans neat and resorted to patching them up instead. Although he had his sweet moments when I would just wonder how he came up with such insight. Thanks for the reminder of how much joy a little boy can bring to your life. Love the pics of your boys also!
I only have two sons, so I can't comment on raising girls. I know my aunt, with two girls of her own, always preferred the boys. She said they were so much easier. Having said all that, now that I am older, it seems my wife and I spend more time with girls - nieces, daughters of friends, etc. But it's not necessarily doing the 'girly' things. They all seem to enjoy getting out, getting dirty (especially with our horses) and generally monkeying around. Maybe it's because we missed out on that during the parenting years?
Alissaroberts, I have 3 boys and can't imagine having a girl, now at least. I have to admit I did want a girl with my last child but now that I have three boys I wouldn't change a think. Tennis shoes and dirt are definitely a requirement with boys. Cute Hub!
I am not a mom yet. This hub is really interesting. I always wanted a boy. My hubby - he wants a girl. I will use this hub to try to convince him :) Thanks.
Great hub. Well written & a vote up. My brother raised 3 boys. While he always complains that raising 3 boys gave him grey hair early, I can tell deep down he enjoyed every minute of it. I liked # 1 because it is so true about boys and dirt. I never thought about # 10, you are forever a princess in your house. This statement is so true. I am going to forward this to my twitter peeps. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, can I relate to this! I have 3 boys (all grown up, now) and after the first one, I did wish for a girl to no avail. But it was fun having boys who were game for just about anything. The only time I missed having a girl was during football season when hubby and 3 sons were all glued to the TV when I wanted to go to the mall. The good thing is that now they've all married and given me daughters-in-law and granddaughters (and a few grandsons, too)! Very nice hub! Voted up!
Loved your hub! I raised two girls and was blessed with two Grandson's. They are spoiled rotten and so much fun!
Wooo !! Such an amusing Hub..Loved Reading it...
Though, I have no experience when it comes to raising kids..LOL!
The night before my ultrasound to find out the sex of our baby, I actually had a nightmare that it was a girl! I was SO relieved to find out we were having a boy. I actually want a houseful of boys and this just helped re-emphasize that foryou me!
I have two boys 22 mths apart...I admit I cried the second time when I found out the sex...but now I can't wait until they become best friends. Right now baby brother is not that interesting to him, but my toddler loves to give him kisses (usually very dirty and slobbery ones). Great top 10 list!
love this hub. I am a mom of three teenage boys and I would'nt trade one blessed minute. I love your top ten list and every one applies to my household. I had a boy every two years and I can't say I was ever disappointed. You get what you get and love them no matter what! Thanks for this hub Alissa, it was a great read!

This was great! I have one of each, girl first and then a boy. I love both of them for such different reasons but boys are great fun! I wrote a poem about raising boys not long ago and am going to link this hub to that one if you don't mind. I had to laugh about the burping. My son taught himself how to burp at 18 months. My husband was disappointed because he wanted to be able to teach him, lol!
